The Legend of Hilda: A Drink to the Past

Our Hero's house, every journey has a beginning. I placed Hilda's house just on the edge of the town, so that there would be a nice reveal of the houses when you approached. I let the smoke of the Farmer's house show at the bottom of the screen.

This project was a Zelda-inspired experience, where you play as shield maiden Hilda, who wakes up hungover after another wild feast with her friends. Waking up she finds something is wrong - mysterious footprints have appeared all over the village and several things have been stolen. It is up to you to jump down into the well, where the beasts come from and take back whatever they stole!

In this project I had the chance to work on dungeon design for a genre I have always loved. Designing a 2D-Isometric game was quite the challenge, but one I was up for! It meant thinking carefully when building the dungeons to make sure that nothing was hidden out of view for the player. Mostly the dungeons revolve around the player having to find keys and use them to unlock doors, coupled with a hookshot mechanic that let you traverse the level a bit differently at certain points. It was a great learning experience and in the end I designed the first and last dungeon and made the final design of our hub map.
